Pianist, composer and conductor, Alberto Rampani (Milano, 1980) has fulfilled his musical studies in Italy, graduating in Piano, and at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano (Switzerland), obtaining the Master of Arts in Composition & Music Theory with G. Verrando and N. Vassena and the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Electronic Music and Sound Design.
He has deepened the study of electronic music at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milano with M. Tadini, A. Vidolin and J. Baboni-Schilingi, and specialized in film music composition at the Chigiana Academy in Siena and at the Griffith Academy of Cinema and Television in Rome, where he has brilliantly attended the Advanced Course in Music and Technologies applied to the Image. He has also gained experience as music critic during the Festival Internazionale W. A. Mozart 2015 in Rovereto (Italy). In recent years he has studied conducting with M° E. Nicotra and currently devotes mainly to this activity. He has always cultivated philosophical interests, even in the university context, focusing his attention on aesthetics and philosophy of music.
He has been active participant in several masterclasses and workshops in piano (with P. Bordoni, N. Khubutia, V. Margulis, M. Campanella), composition (with C. Ambrosini, G. Battistelli, F. De Rossi Re, H. Dufourt, I. Fedele, S. Gervasoni, J. Harvey, P. Jodlowski, D. Lang, G. Manca, B. Mantovani, T. Murail, F. Nieder, T. Riley, S. Sciarrino) and conducting (with G. Ráth and F. Lanzillotta) at various institutions including Milan Conservatory, Chigiana Academy in Siena, "Acanthes" courses, and Sentieri Selvaggi.
Honourable mention at the European Composition Competition "Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Milano" 2009 and winner of the International Composition Competition "32nd Irino Prize for Chamber Music" 2011 in Tokyo, he has been selected among the finalists of the International Composition Contest "Feeding music" receiving the commission for a new piece for ensemble, performed by Divertimento Ensemble and S. Gorli within Expo Milano 2015.
His works have been performed at various venues, including Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, Musikfestival Bern "Vom Himmel", Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena, Milan Expo 2015. Some of the most eminent performers are A. Caiello, Ensemble Laboratorium, Ensemble Novecento dell'Accademia Teatro alla Scala di Milano and M. Angius.
As conductor, he has collaborated several times with the "City of Rome" Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina .
As pianist, he was awarded the II Prize at the Piano International Music Competition “Paul Harris” 1998 in Verbania (Italy) and, from 2005 to 2008, he was member of the Modern and contemporary chamber music laboratory, directed by R. Rivolta at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan.
He is the author of a chapter, dedicated to the analysis of Nuages by C. Debussy, of the volume New lutherie: orchestration, grammar, aesthetics, by G. Verrando and various authors - Edizioni Suvini Zerboni, Milano, 2014).
Already piano teacher at various schools in the Milan area and committed to projects of the Research and Development Department of the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, for several years he is music consultant in the field of contemporary music at Casa Ricordi Srl in Milan.
